I am a Gloucestershire Fiddle Player having been influenced by the playing of my Step-Father Paul Burgess and have been a part of many folk events from leading workshops, playing for Ceilidhs or Concerts to performing with White Horse Morris.
I play the fiddle/violin, recorder, piano and I sing.
I bring a love of music, dance and song to this role. Experience as a band leader, teacher and musician, and an ability to facilitate workshops from morris, appalachian clog, and recorder to west gallery singing. I’m pretty good at providing acoustic music for late night blind circle waltz and Levi Jackson’s too!
I volunteered as a musician because I love Folk Camps and being a part of the guiding team to make it all happen.
People can expect fun, encouragement, great music, laughter and an element of silliness.
By day I am a folk camper, by night I am a secondary school teacher (in mathematics). Did I get that the right way round?! I also enjoy singing in the village choir, and playing in school productions.
I was born and raised as a folk camper and I think I turned out alright despite being the daughter of Paul Weir! As a child, Folk Camps was the most exciting part of the year where I could have freedom to play with Folk Camp friends, learn music and dance, and most of all have fun.
I most enjoy providing opportunity for folk campers to learn something new, be creative and come together with music.
Among my best Folk Camp memories… blimey, where to start? Pegging down tents in a storm, rapper with brassieres, angry birds appalachian clog, midnight dancing on hay bales, human pac man, the rocky horror show, the slug king, corn dollies, lace making, boat trips, birthday celebrations … but most of all being able to wear a beard on holiday.
The thing I love most about Folk Camps is the inclusiveness and community. Each person adds something to the folk camp experience that brings a new dynamic to each camp. You never know what will happen at a camp but it is always fuelled by the campers themselves.
