I have been playing music of many types since learning bassoon at school. I fell into morris dance via medieval music, back in the late 1970s, and have been active in local morris, rapper and clog teams and ceilidh bands ever since.
Coming to folk from a classical background I found playing without ‘dots’ daunting so I can understand both sides of the debate about playing from written music.
Whilst I can get a noise from several instruments I really only play bassoon, melodeon, recorder and bagpipes, though some might place the latter in the ‘noise’ category!
