Steve Piearcey was introduced to Folk Camps in the 1980s, when Jim Reynolds phoned and asked him to be musician at Rhayader. He has been musician and leader at several other camps since.
His interests include Morris and folk dancing, playing and calling at ceilidhs and singing.
When he retired from teaching he did a degree in Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University.
When he first started playing concertina in the 1970s he couldn’t read music at all; even though he can now read music and passed grade 5 music before starting the degree course he agrees with the philosophy of Alastair Anderson of the High Level Ranters – ‘play the tune, not the dots ‘.
